"Walkway Gets Federal Support - $874,000 for Bridge"

On August 10th President Bush signed the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU). This six year spending measure includes $874,000 for the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge Project. These funds which were secured by Congressman Maurice Hinchey may be used to “assess the status of the bridge, make whatever stabilization repairs are required and begin construction on phase one of the project”. We are very grateful to Congressman Hinchey and also to Senators Schumer and Clinton who have shown enthusiastic support for the project.

Hinchey visited the bridge last October (see related article) and promised his support. "It's really gorgeous, especially this time of year. ... It's a great place from which to see the Hudson River and to appreciate the Hudson River Valley."

At a conference held at Marist College last November Poughkeepsie Mayor Nancy Cozean and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton highlighted the Walkway as a vital component in the resurgence of the City of Poughkeepsie, and another future jewel in Hudson Valley’s crown.
