FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DIVERS ENTER THE RIVER TO INSPECT RAILROAD BRIDGE PIERS.

Walkway Over the Hudson has hired Albany-based Bergmann Associates as consulting engineers to complete a full comprehensive study of the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge. Phase 1 will begin next week, before winter sets in, and includes underwater inspection of the massive river piers by their sub-consultant McLaren Engineering Group.

Bergmann will begin Phase 2 of the comprehensive study later this year. Walkway has received funding for the study from federal and state agencies as well private organizations and its membership.

Walkway wants to turn the historic railroad bridge into a park and walkway across the 19 th century steel span. The Walkway will eventually link up with rail trails on both sides of the River.

This month the National Parks Service announced that Walkway was selected to participate in its Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program.
