POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—The nonprofit group Walkway Over the Hudson hosted nearly 1,300 dancers donning I Love NY T-shirts at Walkway State Park on Saturday, May 4 to commemorate I Love My Park Day and attempt a World Record. While the Walkway organization did not break a world record, dancers celebrated the opportunity to enjoy one of New York State’s most dynamic new parks on a particularly beautiful spring day.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recognizing his pivotal role in moving the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park from an unlikely hope to a spectacular success, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has named Poughkeepsie’s Fred Schaeffer its Doppelt Family Rail-Trail Champion for 2013.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—Walkway Over the Hudson organizers reminded the public today that Walkway State Park will be closed to the public from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 so the nonprofit group can host its attempt to break a World Record for the Most People to Dance in a Chorus Line.

Challenge yourself! With the colder weather upon us, it can be a challenge for us to stay active. To motivate us all, staff and volunteers at Walkway Over the Hudson are establishing a contest to get us all moving.

Fred Schaeffer first visited the Poughkeepsie Highland Railroad Bridge long before it was the Walkway Over the Hudson. January 23, 2013 was the twentieth anniversary of this visit.

On January 1, 2013 Walkway Over the Hudson will participate in the First Day Hike Program with parks from all 50 states, including 20 in New York State.

Join Marist Women's Basketball and New York State Parks for the Halloween Party from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 31st. Prizes will be awarded for the best jack-o-lantern and most creative costumes!

Hudson Valley Make A Difference Day participants are invited to the Walkway's Center Observation Area for a kick off event, with donuts and coffee at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27 before their day of service begins.

Walkway Over the Hudson wants to recognize the wonderful, original plank donors. While no planks (railroad ties) were used we are pleased to add a plaque at Walkway West in addition to listing plank donors on our website.

The Independence Day Celebration held at Walkway Over the Hudson State Park on Wednesday, July 4 was a wonderful event, in spite of the close proximity of lightening that required everyone to briefly clear the bridge before the fireworks began.
