Volunteer Pavilion Under Construction
The pavilions will serve as a "Welcome" station for park visitors – where they can obtain information about the Park and surrounding area, purchase Walkway merchandise, sign up to be a member, or make a donation. The buildings will be complete with electrical power and lighting for nighttime activities, as well as the ability to accommodate LCD information screens, a beverage vending machine, and other amenities.
The pavilions have been designed to mirror the spirit of a railroad depot and will have a color scheme consistent with the Walkway graphics and colors. Design has been provided pro bono by Walkway Board member John Storyk and Matt Ballos of Walters- Storyk Design Group. Final color and graphics were created by Woody Pirtle of Pirtle Design, also a Walkway Board member and original designer of the iconic Walkway logo.
Plans are under way for the East Side Pavilion with completion first quarter of 2012. The East Side Pavilion will be similar although modified slightly to accommodate the narrower footprint of its location - near the eastern entrance and directly opposite the Washington Street staircase entrance.
